The Emmanuel Christian boys basketball team used a fourth quarter comeback Friday to defeat Harlan Christian 52- 48.
Emmanuel came out to start the game with a couple good buckets on offense and good defensive pressure. Harlan then got extremely hot, draining five three pointers that left Emmanuel trailing 21-8 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter Emmanuel locked in defensively and held Harlan to nine points in the second quarter, with Harlan hitting a half court shot to end the half, taking them into the locker room with alot of momentum leading 30-16.
Emmanuel came out in the third quarter hitting a couple easy buckets that started to switch the momentum. Coach Joe Gouvan ” We just kept chipping away at their lead to end the third quarter them leading 43-36.”
The start of the fourth quarter Emmanuel kept the same intensity and kept chipping away, as they took a one point lead with two minutes to go. Weston Doyle iced the game making two free throws with 2 seconds left to give Emmauel a four point lead.
Gouvan ”The guys showed alot of heart and determination fighting from behind all game.”
Tyler Samuel led the Emmanuel scoring with 20 points. Kyle Smith chipped in 11 points. Weston Doyle had 13 points.
