The Northfield Lady Norse basketball team won their 15th game of the year Wednesday, with a 42-35 turn over plagued game at Peru.
In a game that took nearly two minutes for the first point, with a combined 20 turn overs in the first quarter Northfield capped off a 15-5 season.
Kyleigh Echard would get the Norse on the board at the 6:16 mark with two free throws that started a 9-0 run. Buckets from Sidney Reed and Echard made it 6-0 before Sydney Eltzroth drained a three to put the Lady Norse up 9-0. As fast as they built the lead it dissapeared. Peru would answer with a 7-0 run to make it 9-7, when Arie Kennedy converted two free throws. Eltzroth would can her second three of the quarter to end the scoring as Northfield led 14-7 after one.
The second quarter looked like a soccer match as both teams kicked the ball around and scored a combined 13 points. Sydney Eltzroth sandwiched a bucket between two Peru buckets to make it 16-11. Katie Stephan and Sidney Reed would then hit back to back to increase the lead to 9 points at 20-11 before Peru converted a three point play to end the second quarter scoring with Northfield leading 20-14. The two teams committed a combined 29 turn overs in the first half.
After each team committed a turn over to start the second half, Arie Kennedy hit for the Norse to make it 22-14 before Peru would score 7 straight to draw within one at 22-21. The Lady Norse would regain their composure with Sidney Reed hitting two free throws, followed by a Kylie Echard bucket off a steal from Reed to make it 26-21. Peru would get a bucket and the Norse two free throws from Eltzroth to make the third quarter score 28-23.
To start the fourth it looked like the Norse could run away with it. Reed would hit and was followed by a Katie Stephan bucket off an Eltzroth steal to make it 32-23. After a Tiger bucket, Payton Thomson and Eltzroth would hit to put the Norse up 11 at 36-25. Peru would not go away, scoring the next 5 points and had the lead cut to 37-32 with 1:51 remaining. After a time out Peru would cut the lead to 37-33 and start to foul. The Norse got the ball to their senior, Sydney Eltzroth who hit four straight from the charity stripe to help seal the 42-35 win.
Leading the Lady Norse was Sydney Eltzroth with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist, 7 steals. Sidney Reed had 8 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assist, 4 steals. Kylie Echard had 7 points, 5 rebounds, 5 blocks. Katie Stephan had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block. Arie Kennedy had 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 3 steals. Payton Thomson had 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 asisst.
The Norse had 29 turn overs and 16 steals.
