The Southwood Lady Knights secured the county’s best record heading to next week’s sectional by defeating Eastbrook 49-39 Thursday. With the win Southwood finishes the regular season with a 16-4 record.
One big quarter propelled Southwood to the win. The Knights were all knotted at 8 with the Panthers after one when both sides of the Knight arsenal took over. Led by Amy Bowman and Sarah White the Lady Knights put up 14 points in the second while holding Eastbrook to just 2 points. Southwood led 22-10 at the half.
Eastbrook would cut in to the Southwood lead in the third, making things interesting with a quarter to go. The Panthers out scored Southwood 19-14 to cut the lead to just 7 points with a quarter to go at 36-29.
The Lady Knights would respond in the fourth, winning the quarter 13-10 to secure the 49-39 win.
Leading Southwood was Amy Bowman with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals, 1 block. Sarah White had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assist, 4 steals. Emily Murphy had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal. Katie Stouffer had 5 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks. Ana Marie Farlow had 3 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal. Kaley Harness had 2 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals.
The Lady Knights won the rebounding battle 33-26 and shot 17 of 30 from the stripe.
The junior varisty topped Eastbrook 39-34.
