A strong second half from Adams Central kept the Southwood boys basketball team from picking up their 10th win Tuesday, as the Knights fell 52-46.
After a bit of a sluggish start Southwood trailed 15-11 after the first quarter before the Knights began to click in the second. Both the offense and defense took control, scoring 16 points while holding Adams Central to just 5 as the Knights led 27-20 at the half.
As fast as the Knights caught fire in the second quarter, Adams Central put the fire out in the second half. The Flying Jets would out score Southwood 15-9 in the third quarter as the Knights clung to a 36-35 lead, then pull away from Southwood in the fourth, winning the quarter 17-10 for the 52-46 score.
Leading Southwood was Shane Smith with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals. Jackson Blair added 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assist. Robbie Cole had 8 points, 5 assist. Corey Phillipy had 4 rebounds. Levi Sutton had 4 assist, 3 steals. Ross Phillipy had 3 assist. Nathan Hollars had 2 steals.
The junior varsity fell to Adams Central 26-25.
Noah Kirk led with 9 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals. Luke Elliott had 8 points, 3 rebounds. Jacob Lloyd had 6 points, 2 steals. Zach Hobson had 2 points. Dolph Struck had 4 rebounds. Logan Paris had 3 rebounds, 2 assist.
