The Southwood boys basketball had been in a bit a funk lately, losing three in a row and five of their last six, needing a win Tuesday at Eastbrook to gain some momentum for Bluffton Friday and next week’s sectional.
The Knights got that shot in the arm Tuesday as they went to Eastbrook and domainated the Panthers for a 62-48 win.
Southwood built a 12-9 lead after the first quarter before a dominating effort in the second put them in the position they wanted. The Knights out scored Eastbrook 19-8 in the second to stretch their lead for a 31-17 halftime lead.
Knowing they were on the road and Eastbrook had the potential for a run at any time the Knight intensity remained high, again winning the quarter 21-11 to increase their lead to 52-28 with a quarter to go.
The Panther run the Knights knew could happen did in the fourth, as Eastbrook out scored Southwood 20-10 in the fourth, but the previous three quarter out put of the Knights had built a comfortable lead as they snapped their losing skid with the 62-48 win.
Leading the Knights was Shane Smith with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assist, 4 steals. Corey Phillipy added 18 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals. Jackson Blair had 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assist. Levi Sutton had 3 assist, 4 steals. Nathan Hollars had 3 assist, 2 steals. Robbie Cole had 2 assist, 2 steals.
