The Wabash Lady Apache softball team opened their 2013 season Monday by taking on Western, who is a top 30 team in 3A. While the Lady Apaches held their own early, the Panthers were able to rally for a 12-0 win.
Western scored one run in the first after a hitter was hit by a pitch, stole second then scored on a passed ball and a bad throw. Still threatening, Wabash threw out a runner at third then pitcher Destiney Collins struck out the third out to get out of the inning. Wabash’s Jacinda Clark was the lone runner in the first, reaching on a third strike passed ball.
Western would put up three more runs in the third, then explode for seven runs in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead and eventually win the game 12-0 in five innings.
The Lady Apaches did not record a hit in the game.
