For the second game in a row the Southwood varsity baseball scored 13 runs. The outcome was different than Saturday though as the Knights blasted two grand slams and starting pitcher Robbie Cole allowed just 5 hits in a five inning 13-2 win over Madison Grant Monday.
After giving up back to back singles to start the game, Cole settled down to get a strike out, fly out and a grounder to get out of the inning. In the bottom of the first Jackson Blair would draw a one out walk. With two outs Brandin Frazier laced a single to put runners on first & third when Jacob Lloyd singled home the first Knight run. The next hitter, Nathan Hollars then singled home Frazier to give Southwood a 2-0 lead after one.
A one out single and a ground out by the Argylls in the second put a runner on second. Trying to manufacture something the Argylls stole third, with catcher Jacob Lloyd’s throw ending up in left field to make it 2-1. After a second single, Cole would get out of the inning. The Knights would respond in the bottom of the inning in a big way. Brennan Kelly drew a one out walk and was followed by a Kyle Weaver single. Jackson Blair would then single home a run to make it 3-1 and was followed by a Robbie Cole walk to load the bases. Brandin Frazier then walked to bring in the Knight 4th run when the fireworks began. Jacob Lloyd blasted a one out grand slam that busted the game open at 8-1.
In the third after hitting the first batter, Cole would strike out the next two and force a fly out to get the Knights back to the plate. Again, Kelly would start the rally with a walk. After a pop out, Jackson Blair singled and was followed by a Robbie Cole walk to load the bases. Up came freshman Brandin Frazier or Big Pup as they call him, who lifted a shot over the trees behind the left field fence for the Knights second grand slam in two innings and take a commanding 12-1 lead.
Cole cruised through the 4th that was aided by an over the shoulder running catch by Jackson Blair to end the inning and back up were the Knights. With the bases loaded and two outs, Collin Elliott was hit by a pitch to bring in the 13th run.
With one out in the top of the fifth, Cole would give up a solo shot for the Argylls second run before getting out of the inning for the 13-2 win.
