The Northfield varsity baseball team scored late to defeat Rochester to win their TRC opener 3-0.
The game was tied at 0 entering the 6th. Dallas Hovey was up in the top of 5th with runners at 1st and 2nd, but grounded
into a 1-6-3 double play to end the threat.
In the top of the 6th, Adam Roser singled to center. Andrew Waldon then walked, with Roser going to second. Andy Roser then had an infield single to 3rd to load the bases. Ryan Keaffaber grounded into a 6-2 fielder’s choice. Joseph Ross then grounded sharply to the second baseman, who bobbled it enough to have to force Ross at first, scoring Waldon , 1-0.
In the bottom of the 6th, Alec Holland hit a lead off double to shallow left center. Ryan Keaffaber then struck out the next 3 hitters to end the threat.
In the top of the 7th, Collin Dawes lead off with a walk. Shane Vigar then singled to center with Dawes advancing to second.
Reliever Andrew Feldman struck out Jared Kirtlan and pinch hitter Andy Maggart before Adam Roser singled sharply to center to score Dawes and Vigar (3-0).
Keaffaber struck out the side in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
Ryan Keaffaber threw his 4th straight shutout allowing only 3 hits, walking none and striking out 16. Keaffaber won his 39th career game on the mound which ties him for 9th all-time in Indiana high school baseball history.
Adam Roser had 2 hits and 2 rbi and Shane Vigar added 2 hits as well to lead the Norse. Andrew Waldon and Andy Roser added singles.
