One night after falling to North Miami the Wabash baseball team knocked off the number one team in the state, winning a thriller, 6-4 over Northfield Wednesday, snapping the Norse win streak at 9.
The Norse got off to a good start when Ryan Keaffaber hit a two run homer in the bottom of the first to give Northfield a 2-0 lead.
Starting pitchers Roger Davis and Andy Roser would battle, keeping the other team from any major rallies for the next three innings as the two teams were headed for the 5th with the score still 2-0.
The Apaches would manufacture a run in the 5th to cut the Northfield lead in half at 2-1, with Davis again holding Northfield from scoring in the inning.
In the top of the 6th the Apaches were starting to get to Roser, scoring a run to tie the game at 2 when Tyler Brewer hit a two run shot over the left field monster to give Wabash their first lead at 4-2. In the bottom of the inning the Norse would set the stage for a nerve rattling finish. With one on, Shane Vigar connected for his first homer of the year to knot the score at 4 heading for the 7th.
In the 7th Landon Cole knocked a one out single that brought in Northfield ace Ryan Keaffaber. After a strikeout Shea Beauchamp laced a single to put two Apaches on base. Grant Sailors then blooped a double to right to give the Apaches a 6-4 lead heading to the bottom. With one out and a runner on first, a grounder to second baseman Isiah Smith turned in to a game ending double play.
For Wabash, Shea Beauchamp had 3 hits to lead the Apaches offense while Landon Cole and Grant Sailors had 2 each. Tyler Brewer homered.
Ryan Keaffaber and Shane Vigar each homered for the Norse. Vigar went 3-3 and Jared Kirtlan added 2 hits.
