Knights Fall In Extras

The Southwood varsity baseball team lost a tough 5-1 extra inning contest to Rochester Wednesday.

Rochester scored 1 run in the 1st, on a bloop single, with Robbie Cole holding Rochester scoreless for the next 7 innings.

The Knights scored their lone run in the 7th inning with Robbie Cole leading off with a single, with two outs in the inning, Dustin Curless hit a grounder to second base that the second basemen booted, scoring the lone run.

Rochester plated 4 runs in the 10th inning to get the victory.

Robbie pitched 8 innings and gave up 1 earned run.

Brennan Kelly pitched two innings getting the Knights out of a 2 on nobody out jam in the 9th.

Coach Holtzleiter ” We played great defensively and Robbie Cole was once again lights out on the mound. At the plate we once again struggled. I was proud of the way our team played, how everyone put the needs of the team over their own. While am not happy with the loss, I can not fault our team for effort, if we clean up the offensive side of the ball we have a real chance to make a run.”

The junior varsity fell at Eastbrook , 8 – 6.  Clay Hinrichsen had a pair of hits for the 2 and 4 JV including a home run and Aaron Kelly had a pair of hits in the contest.
