The Southwood and Wabash softball teams hooked up in an inter county battle Monday with the lady Knights winning 11-1 in five innings.
With two outs in the top of the first, Jenny Bentley reached on a Wabash error and was followed by Logan Hensley drawing a walk. Courtney Simpson then singled to center, bringing in Bentley and Hensley to give Southwood a 2-0 lead. Bailey Lundmark then singled to put runners on first and second when Meranda Friend singled home pinch runner Kate Baxter to make it 3-0 after one.
The Lady Knights would put up 3 more runs in the second on a couple Apache errors and a Lundmark single to stretch the lead to 6-0 after two.
With Jenny Bentley dominating on the mound the Knights would score 2 more in the third and one more in the fourth, leading 9-0 when Wabash found the board. Montana Castero would lead off with a double and advance to third on a wild pitch. Destiny Collins would then ground out, scoring Castero to make it 9-1.
Southwood would score two more in the fifth with hits coming from Bentley, Lundmark and Simpson to seal the five inning 11-1 win.
Southwood pounded out 10 hits, while Wabash was held to 1 by Bentley. The Knights were led by Bentley, Simpson and Lundmark with two hits each.
Montana Castero had the lone Wabash hit.
Benyley went 5 innings, giving up 1 hit and striking out 10. Diane King and Destiny Collins split time on the mound for Wabash with King taking the loss.
