The Southwood Lady Knight softball team paid a visit to Tippecanoe Valley Wednesday and put a whooping on the host. After scoring 1 run in the first, Southwood exploded for 8 in the second on their way to a 19-3 win.
In the second inning Courtney Simpson got things going with a single. After a steal by pinch runner Kate Baxter Meranda Friend would bring her in with a single. Grossnickle would drive Friend home to make it 3-0 and was followed by a 2 rbi single from Mikayla Mettler. A couple Valley errors led to an 8-0 lead, with Friend driving home the 9th with a single to lead 9-0 after two.
The Lady Knights would cruise the rest of the game, grinding out 19 hits that resulted in 15 rbi’s.
Coach’s Notes/Commentary: We played a pretty solid game until the third where our defense let our pitching down a few times, but we were able to shake it off to finish strong. Our youth came in and played hard and is really starting to make strides that is exciting to see as we come down the stretch. We will get back to work at practice tomorrow to prepare for a great challenge Saturday against the Eagles of Oak Hill.
