After a disappointing loss to Northfield on Monday, the Southwood baseball team bounced back to defeat 1A, #10 Caston Tuesday 11-8.
The Knights did all their scoring in two innings, scoring 7 runs in the 4th and 4 in the 6th to pull out the win.
Colin Gouviea got the start on the mound going 6 innings, striking out 6, walking 1. Colin gave up 7 runs 4 earned to get the victory. Kyle Weaver pitched the last inning giving up 1 run.
At the plate Robbie Cole hit a go ahead Grand Slam in the 6th, had 4 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Nathan Hollars went 2-4 with 2 rbi and 2 runs. Christian Deeter went 2-3 with 2 RBI’s and 1 Run scored. Kyle Weaver went 1-4 with 2 runs, and a SB. Luke Elliott went 1-4 with 1 run and an RBI. Jake Lloyd and Clay Hinrichsen each scored a run.
Coach Holtzleiter ” We swung the bats well tonight and Colin gave us a quality start. We need to clean up somethings still, but it was an important bounce back win for our team, and gives us 4 wins in our last 5 games.”
The junior varsity posted a 23 – 2 win at Caston. Brandon Frazier picked up the win for the JV; Steven Mahan had 3 hits as did William Roberts; Aaron Kelly had a pair of hits and Dustin Curless added a triple.
