The Northfield baseball team won their 21st game Wednesday, topping Manchester 12-2 in five innings.
Northfield got a strong pitching performance from Andy Roser, who went five innings, giving up 4 hits, striking out 9 and walking 1.
After the Squires went three up and three down in the first, the Norse would take control early. Collin Dawes led off with a single and advanced to third on an error. Ryan Keaffaber doubled home Dawes to make it 1-0 when Andy Roser smoked a two run shot over the left field fence to increase the lead to 3-0. Joseph Ross would then double and after a walk to Andrew Waldon, Ross scored on a passed ball, 4-0. After a Dallas Hovey single put runners on 1st & 3rd, Jared Kirtlan hit a rbi fly out to give the Norse a 5-0 lead after one.
In the bottom of the third the Norse would strike again. Hovey was hit by a pitch and followed by a Kirtlan sac bunt. After a Smalley walk, Ryan Keaffaber hit a shot over the left center fence to make it 8-0.
Manchester would get on the board in the 4th. Jim Sainsbury would hit a one out double and with two outs Grant Schuler doubled home Sainsbury. Justin Lewis then singled home Schuler to make it 8-2.
In the bottom of the 5th, Smalley would lead off with a single. Dawes followed with a walk top put runners on 1st & 2nd. After a strike out, Roser would double home Smalley to make it 9-2. Joseph Ross would the get a sac rbi to go up 10-2 before an Andy Maggart single increased the lead to 11-2. Spencer Miller would single to keep the rally alive for Austin Curless, who singled in the 12th run to end the game at 12-2.
