The Northfield Lady Norse softball team opened the sectional Monday, playing Lewis Cass at Cass. After taking an early lead, the Norse missed some scoring opportunities later to fall 4-2.
Heading to the top of the 3rd the game was scoreless when the Lady Norse struck first. Caitlin Eltzroth would hit a one out single and after a pop up, steal 2nd & 3rd. Abby Keaffaber came through with an rbi single to give Northfield a 1-0 lead. Aided by two Northfield errors, Cass would strike back scoring two in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 lead.
Cass would tack on a run in the 4th and one in the 6th to lead 4-1, with the Norse having one more shot.
In the top of the 7th Callie Monce started things off with a single and was followed by the shortstop booting a Caitlin Eltzroth grounder to put runners on 1st & 2nd with no outs. On the next ground ball, Monce was called for runner interference for the first out. After a fly out Emily Shafer came through with a single to drive Eltzroth home to make it 4-2 before a ground out ended the game.
The Norse had their shots, loading the bases in the 2nd with one out and again in the 6th with no outs without being able to plate a run. They also had two on with no outs in the 7th, scoring one.
