ANGOLA, IND. – Freshman Lauren Byers continued to add to an already-impressive first-year campaign for Manchester University Thursday, Sept. 12.
The Evansville, Ind., native carded a round of 83 at Trine University’s Fall Classic. She wound up just three strokes from medalist honors, placing third individually behind Indiana Wesleyan’s Jessica Moloche, the meet medalist (80), and Hope College of Michigan’s Montana Leep (82).
Byers’ total sparked a team 359 for the Spartans which was good for fifth and only eight shots shy of the top three. Senior Carly Clock (Hartford City, Ind.) was just outside the top 10 individually with a round of 87, placing her in a tie for 12th. Junior Aubrey Mills (Richmond, Ind.) and senior Miranda DeHart (Englewood, Ohio) were next in line with a 94 and 95, respectively.
Cleary University of Michigan took home the team title (341). Indiana Wesleyan edged the host Thunder by four strokes (347-351) for second.
MU has a quick turnaround to the course Saturday, Sept. 14. The Spartans host their fall invitational at Honeywell Golf Course in Wabash. Tee times begin at 9 a.m.
