The Manchester Squire tennis team took to the road for a long trip to DeKalb Wednesday and competed well but came up just short of a team victory, falling 2-3. Connor Eichenauer played many close games, but was defeated by a excellent Division II bound opponent. Max Karg played a long 2 setter before losing his first match of the year. Brayton Spann played his best match of the season in defeating his 3 singles opponent. “Brayton played consistent, error free, smart tennis tonight and really frustrated his opponent.” #2 doubles struggled to find their rhythm in a close but winnable match, losing the second set in a tiebreaker. #1 Doubles, however, played very well at times, especially in closing out set 1, and finishing with a strong 3rd set. “Senior Morgan Metzger again played well with great anticipation, poise, and toughness. Noah Cain served well and is beginning to move better on the court which created some well placed shots and strong put aways. JV gave great effort but lost at all positions.
“We knew we were going up against a strong opponent tonight in the DeKalb Barons, a team that beat us 5-0 last year. We were close to pulling this one out and know that this loss made us a better team. We look forward to a strong last few weeks to our season.”-Joel Eichenauer
