Wapahani Flexes Their Muscle At Southwood

knights_southwoodTwo time defending 2A state champion Wapahani paid a visit to Southwood Saturday evening, flexing their muscle in a 25-18, 25-19, 25-15 win over the Lady Knights.

Digging everything Southwood hit at them, while showing their power at the net, the Raiders were just to much to handle Saturday as Southwood continued their brutal schedule.

In game one after falling behind 0-2 Southwood got on the board with kills from Kaitlyn Murphy and Drew Rhamy to tie the score. The Lady Knights went up 4-3 on another Rhamy kill before the Raiders ripped off four straight to lead 7-4. At that point the two teams would play even until the score was 17-13 in favor of Wapahani when they went on a run. The Lady Raiders would run off six straight points to increase their lead to 23-13 before two Lexi Brickner kills made it 23-15. After a Raider point the Knights would score three straight before Wapahani scored the final point for the 25-18 win.

Wapahani would start game two by scoring the first four points of the game. The Lady Knights would keep their composure and worked their way back to 4-5. Wapahani would go on two, three point runs and a four point run while never letting Southwood score more than two points in a row to grab a 21-13 lead. Sami White would get a point on a tip and was followed by an ace from Amy Bowman and a kill from Lexi Brickner to give the Knights hope at 16-21. Again the Raiders would score three straight to make it 24-16 when Southwood had one more push. Forcing three Wapahani errors the Knights scored three straight before Wapahani ended game two at 25-19.

Game three was a game of runs by both teams. Wapahani started the game by scoring the first six points to lead 6-0 when the Knights answered. Kills from Rhamy and Brickner ignited a four point run to close the gap to 4-6. Wapahani would then score four straight to  get their lead to 4-10 when the Knights scored three straight. Murphy had a kill and Brickner a block. The Raiders would then answer, scoring six of the games next seven points to open an 8-15 lead. With a Knight three point run and a Raider five point run the lead increased to 11-20. The theme stayed the same with three Knight points and four Raider points to make it 14-24 and the final being 15-25.

For Southwood Lexi Brickner had 7 service points, 10 kills, 2 digs, 1 block. Delayne Gentry had 1 assist. Sami White had 5 service points, 3 kills, 9 assist, 1 block, 7 digs.
