Head Coach Jeremy Steele had nothing but praise for his team’s efforts against Canterbury on Wednesday night, 9/25/13, where he pitted his co-ed 5-6 soccer team against an all boy 5-6 Canterbury team, leading to a 1-0 shutout victory over Canterbury.
Following the matchup, coach Steele shared his enthusiasms regarding the team and the game. “First off, great goalkeeper played by Tyler Proffitt for helping us post a shutout! Great backfield defense, getting to every 50/50 ball, great teamwork and passing, controlled possession! We were much more aggressive and controlled the middle of the field!”
The lone score in the match came less than five minutes into the match when Kayla Mays earned an assist when she made a well placed pass to Braden Brooks who scored on a point blank shot on the goal.
The Strikers did a nice job controlling the pace of the game, owning the ball, but Canterbury did have several opportunities, including a penalty kick, that did not produce any points for Canterbury.
The 5-6 team currently holds a 7-0-2 record and hosts North Manchester and Peru before a final match against Canterbury in Fort Wayne on 10/7/13.
