On Monday night, September 30th, 2013, the Wasonoma Strikers 3-4 soccer team earned a decisive win, shutting out North Miami 6-0.
Head coach Scott Dinkins shared, “I was very proud of how the team played. We are continuing to get better and working together. They did a great job of controlling the ball and kept it in the offensive half of the field for most of the game. We ended up with about 15 shots on the goal with 10 on target. Their goalie made several nice saves. Defensively, we did not allow any shots on our goal that I remember. We played a lot of different people in different positions tonight and they all did a great job. That tells me the kids are understanding what all of the positions on the field are supposed to do even if they haven’t played in those positions. That is a hard concept for a lot of players, but I’m impressed with their understanding especially at their age. This is a great group of kids and they are a lot of fun to coach.”
The first goal was scored just 50 seconds into the game. Wyatt Bermes made some very decisive dribbling moves to beat several North Miami defenders and land the first score.
Wyatt also earned the second goal, striking at the 4:45 mark.
After some extended play and trying players at various positions, Jasey Hedrick came up with a great goal with assist given to Cash Cartwright for his power pass to Jasey.
Two minutes later, Noah Burkhart earned the 4th goal to put the Strikers up 4-0 where they would remain for the rest of the first half.
The second half gave the coaches more time to experiment with players in various positions. The first of the two scores in the second half came from Cash Cartwright who with some nice footwork juked past several defenders to earn the final goal.
Eli Kroh secured the final goal to complete the scoring for the night for the Strikers.
Andrew Dinkins and Noah Burkhart served as goalkeepers and share the shutout honors with their impressive defense who kept North Miami at bay for the entire match.
The 3-4 team finishes their season at home Wednesday night, October 2nd, against North Manchester. The squad currently holds a 4-1-0 record.
