The Southwood Lady Knight volleyball team made short work of North Miami Tuesday, defeating the Warriors 25-10, 25-14, 25-8.
Southwood showed their dominance right from the start. With a 5-3 lead the Knights would go on a major run that would set the tone for the night. Southwood would score 10 points in a row that was started with a kill from Sarah Peters. Peters would record two kills during the run with Amy Bowman serving two aces. Sami White and Lexi Brickner added a block. After North Miami scored three straight, the Knights would score 6 of the next 7 points to increase their lead to 21-7. Again it was Peters starting the surge with a kill that ended after a Kaitlyn Murphy kill. Southwood went on to win game one 25-10.
Maybe having a mental letdown after game one, the Lady Knights would spin their wheels early in game two. North Miami would lead 4-3 and had the game tied at 6 before Southwood came to life. Sarah Peters would record two kills as the Knights scored four straight, but they couldn’t shake the Warriors as they led just 14-11. At 16-12 The Knights finally found some rhythm. Kaitlyn Murphy would get a kill that started a 6-0 run to give Southwood some breathing room at 22-12. During the run Drew Rhamy had two kills, Lexi Brickner had a kill and a block, with Emilie Harnish getting an ace. The Knights would win game two 25-14.
Maybe remembering their lapse in game two, the Knights would dominate game three. Leading 5-4 and Amy Bowman serving the Knights would score 10 straight points to grab a 15-4 lead. Bowman, Brickner and Peters all had kills during the run. Bowman also added an ace. After a North Miami point the Knights would run again, scoring 6 straight and 9 of the next 10 game points to lead 24-6 before winning 25-8.
