All four county cross country teams participated in sectional action Tuesday, with several teams and individuals moving on to Saturday’s regionals.
Manchester ran in the Culver sectional with neither the boys or girls teams advancing, but did have several individual runners make it out. In the boys race, Matthew Fahs-Brown was 2nd overall in 16:44 with team mate Skyler Burke finishing 30th in 18:49. The top ten individuals not on a top five team advance to the regional. The boys team finished 8th. For the girls Clara Burdette was 22nd and Trista Hill 29th to move on. The Manchester girls finished 6th. Manchester will run in the Culver regional.
Northfield, Wabash and Southwood traveled to the Marion sectional. The boys race was first with Northfield placing 2nd and Wabash 5th to advance as teams to Saturday’s regional. Southwood placed 7th. Leading Northfield was Joe Burcroff with a 7th place finish in 16:59. Devin Tracy was 9th in 17:12, Austin Frye 11th in 17:15, Austin Andrews 24th in 18:10, Heath Miller 30th in 18:18, Keegan Knepp 43rd in 19:21 and Noah Augustus 45th in 19:26.
Sam Hall led Wabash with a 14th place finish in 17:40. Kyle Kelsheimer 21st 18:01, Aries Reza 25th 18:12, Brodie Hough 27th 18:15, Adam Driscoll 49th 19:46, Devin Hostetler 54th 20:11, Anusorne Chanthachak 64th 21:23.
Michael Lengel of Southwood advanced as an individual, running 18:14. The Southwood team was 7th.
In the girls race, Northfield finished 2nd with Southwood taking 4th and both teams advancing. The Lady Norse were led by sectional champion Jenna Halderman, who ran away from the field in 18:30 to set a new course record. Also for Northfield Brittany Sloan was 7th in 19:56, Karla Singer 8th in 19:57, Caitlin Eltzroth 28th in 22:00, Olivia Thompson 43rd in 23:14, Katie Stephan 50th in 23:59, Taylor Koch 54th in 24:31.
Emily Lehner led Southwood with a 5th place finish in 19:53. Ellie White was 6th in 19:55, Haley Heath 10th in 20:18, Taylor Heath 32nd in 22:12, Meranda Friend 37th in 22:37, Kassidy Atwood 53rd in 24:26.
The Wabash girls finished 10th with no runner advancing. Carli Henderson was the top finisher, placing 46th in 23:39.
