The Wabash volleyball team traveled to Denver Indiana Wednesday to take on next week’s first round sectional opponent in North Miami, defeating the host Warriors 25-23, 21-25, 25-13, 25-17.
The Lady Apaches had a hard time getting on track early in game one, trailing 2-5 before getting their first offensive point that was a kill from Lyndsie Thomas. Down 6-8 Wabash would score four straight that was started by a Kristin Cromer ace to take a 10-8 lead, but couldn’t shake North Miami. Sarah Ritter would get a kill to make it 24-22 and after a North Miami point Kyleigh Hampton would tip one over the net defenders to end game one 25-23.
Again in game two a slow start would plague the Apaches, eventually falling behind 7-14. The Apaches would go to Thomas and Hampton but the Warriors kept pounding away, never letting Wabash get closer than five points until 18-24 when Wabash made it interesting, scoring three straight with two Thomas kills to close the gap to 21-24 when the Warriors scored to end game two 21-25 and tie the night 1-1.
Wabash would rebound in game three, jumping on North Miami early and racing out to a 9-2 lead. Thomas had two kills during the run with Claire Cromer getting a tip for a point. Wabash would increase their lead to 13-5 before the Warriors came storming back, scoring four in a row to make it 13-9. After a Wabash time out, North Miami would score three of the next four points and the Wabash lead was down to two at 14-12. At that point the Wabash offense caught fire and with Kyleigh Hampton serving scored eight points in a row and eleven of the next twelve to run away with game three 25-13. Lyndsie Thomas had four kills during the run with Sarah Ritter chipping in a kill.
After catching fire to end game three, the Lady Apaches experienced a let down to start game four, falling behind 2-6 and eventually trailed 7-11 before things clicked.
