Just two weeks after sweeping Oak Hill in the regular season, the Manchester volleyball team met the Golden Eagles again in round one of the North Miami sectional Tuesday, falling 25-22, 14-25, 25-14, 12-25, 7-15 to end their season.
Early in game one it looked like the Squires could repeat the regular season win, jumping out to a 5-1 lead before things got tight. Sydney Snep got things going with a kill that was followed with kills from Corrie Osborne and Cierra Carter to take the lead. Oak Hill would fight back and eventually take a 7-8 lead and were up 13-16 when the Squires caught fire. With Rae Bedke serving Manchester would go on a 6-0 run that was aided by kills from Osborne and Carter. Bedke had two aces during the run and Manchester led 19-16. Oak Hill would then get the hot hand, scoring six of the next eight points when the Squires would go one more time. Manchester would score four straight and took game one 25-22.
Manchester would hold the lead early in game two and were tied at 8 when the offense would hit a wall. During the next nine points, eight would come from Oak Hill as the Eagles opened a 9-16 lead. The Squires could never get the motor running and fell 14-25.
Maybe after a game two letdown the Squires would be the one to control things in game three. Trailing 7-8 setter Rae Bedke would find outside hitter Sydney Snep with Snep delivering three kills as Manchester scored six straight to lead 13-8. Keeping the pedal to the medal the Squires were leading 18-14 when Cali Spann would go on an ace barrage, serving three as Manchester scored eight straight to win game three 25-14.
It was like a yo yo for the Squires playing in game four. Manchester won game one big, lost game two big, won game three big and would lose game four big. The Squires fell behind early and every wheel on the wagon fell off, falling 12-25. Out of the 12 points, only 4 were scored by the offense. Corrie Osborne had a tip for a point, Madison Isbell a block, Rae Bedke an ace and Sydney Snep a kill.
With game five going to just 15, the Lady Squires needed a good start. Instead it was Oak Hill with the fast start as they jumped on the Squires for a 0-7 lead. Down 1-9 Manchester would try to get back in the game, scoring three straight behind Snep and Carter, but the deficit was to large as Manchester fell 7-15 and 2-3 for the night.
