For four innings Monday the Northfield baseball team was giving the defending 3A state champions Norwell all they wanted until a disastrous fifth inning did them in. The Norse trailed just 2-0 after four innings before giving up 8 runs in the fifth to fall 10-0 in five innings.
Northfield tried to jump on Norwell right off the bat when Adam Roser got the game started with a single, but was forced out at second on a Drake Richter grounder with Norwell getting out of the inning.
The first run of the game came in the bottom of the second when the Knights manufactured a run with two outs to grab a 1-0 lead.
Norwell would add another run in the second for a 2-0 lead and the game remained at 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth when everything went wrong for the Norse. Norwell scored 8 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks and 4 batters hit by a pitch to end the game at 10-0.
