Rage Tame the Zebras

The Metro Rage travelled to Rochester on Saturday and earned 4-2 win over the Zebra’s. Heath Miller (NF) opened the scoring for the Rage at the 13 minute mark when he dribbled through several defenders and buried the ball in the back of the net.

The Rage would score again a few minutes later when Miller crossed a ball to the back post where Mason Zolman (NF) was waiting to head the ball into the net before the Zebra’s Goal Keeper could respond. Parker Mays (SW) closed out the scoring for the half when Noah Shear (NF) dribbled past his defender and played a ball across the front of the goal to Mays who slammed it into the net. The Rage took a 3-0 lead into half time.

The Zebras would score a goal of their own early in the second half, but the Rage responded with another goal of their own. Adam Denney (SW) beat his defender down the left sideline and played a ball through to a streaking Heath Miller who baited the Zebra’s Goal Keeper into lunging at the ball which Miller deftly pushed aside and poked into the net.

Tanner Proffitt (SW) had 4 saves in goal for the game. The Rage had a total of 29 shots on the day with about half of those shots being “on goal.”

Coach Jeff Hobson commented “I thought this was a great game for us to be able to measure where we are thus far into the season. We go to Fort Wayne this next week to play the Fort Wayne Fusion who are traditionally one of the better teams on our schedule. Rochester has a very nice team. They played mostly JV kids but moved some varsity players down, including their goal keeper, to make it more competitive. Coach (Trevor) Brown has a great program at Rochester and I was glad we got to play them.”

Hobson went on to say “I thought our younger kids really stepped up in the second half. The pace of play was a little overwhelming for them in the first half but I felt like the three younger defenders, Tyler Robison, Kylie Mitchell and Kennedy Haynes, reall played well in the second half. We are starting to improve which is exciting.”

The Rage JV team return to action on Wednesday when they host the Manchester Squires. The JV and varsity team will travel to Kreiger Park in Fort Wayne on Thursday to play the Fusion.
