The Northfield volleyball team traveled to Huntington Tuesday to take on the Vikings, struggling in three straight games in a 13-25, 20-25, 15-25 loss.
Paige Holley started game one with a kill along with a kill from Cherish Leming to trail just 3-2 before several Norse errors and a dominant from line from Huntington led to a Viking six point run and a 10-3 lead before a Cassidy Miller kill ended the run. The Norse could never score more than two points in a rown until 20-9 when they scored three straight. Huntington won game one 25-13.
It looked like the Norse had regrouped to start game two, jumping out to a 7-2 lead aided by kills from Miller and Leming and an ace from Marlee Stefanatos, but the Vikings scored five in a row to tie the score at seven. Northfield would cling to a 10-9 lead after a Holly Dyson kill, but the powerful Vikings would pound away at the net and had a 21-16 lead before the Norse made things interesting. Arie Kennedy would pound a kill that was followed by kills from Miller and Dyson to draw within two at 19-21. Huntington would then score the four of five points to end game two 20-25.
Again it was a couple Viking runs that would doom the Norse in game three. The game was tied six times early with Kennedy, Miller, Tori Snyder and Liz Howenstine getting kills, but at 11-11 the Vikings would take control. Huntington would score five straight, then after ab error score five straight a second time to build a 12-21 lead and go on to win game three 15-25 for a 3-0 sweep over the Norse.
Cassidy Miller had 10 kills. Arie Kennedy had 5 kills, 10 digs, and 7 serve receptions. Liz Howenstine had 25 assists and 3 blocks.
The junior varsity lost in two games.
Stats will be added when received.
