The Northfield football team used a 21 point second quarter in route to a 40-22 win over Tippecanoe Valley Friday.
The Norse got off to a slow start, giving up 6 points in the first quarter, but couldn’t find the end zone themselves as they trailed 6-0 after one.
As slow as the offense was in the first, it was the exact opposite in the second. Just 8 seconds in to the quarter Jarred Short found pay dirt from 6yds out to give Northfield a 7-6 lead. Three minutes later Josh Bickel busted loose for a 23yd scoring run as the Norse increased their lead to 14-6. The Norse defense shut down the Vikings once more and with 5:10 left in the quarter would strike once more. Jarred Short found a seam and raced 22yds for a score as Northfield took a 21-6 lead to the locker room.
Midway through the third quarter the Norse would tack on another score as Carter Frieden connected with Shane Vigar on a 12yd pass play for a score and led 27-6. Valley would break their scoring drought with 4:45 left to cut the Northfield lead to 27-14, but the Norse had the answer when Shane Vigar broke loose for 77yds and a score to make it 33-14 after three.
Making sure there was no let down, just one minute in to the final quarter the Norse would strike once more when Josh Bickel would break loose for a 27yd scoring run to build the lead to 40-14. The Norse would go on to defeat the Vikings 40-22.
Carter Frieden was 7 of 19 for 106yds, 1TD. Josh Bickel rushed 16 times for 100yds. Frieden added 5 for 84yds, Shane Vigar 5 for 99yds, Joe Halderman 3 for 5yds, Jarred Short 4 for 24yds. Shane Vigar had 3 receptions for 52yds. Brown added 2 for 18yds, Kendall 1 for 25yds.
