Lady Knights Take County Match Up Over Norse

The gym was full Tuesday night as the Southwood volleyball team hosted county rival Northfield in a TRC showdown, with the Lady Knights defending home turf 25-19, 25-15, 25-19.

Northfield got off to the good start in game one as they raced out to a 5-1 lead on the back of a Kassidy Miller kill, but a kill and a block from Emilie Harnish brought the Knights back to tie the game at 8. The Lady Knights would then go to their power hitter Kaitlyn Murphy as Sami (Bean Dip) White fed Murphy for two kills to grab an 11-8 lead. The Norse would then take advantage of a couple Knight miscues and with a Holly Dyson kill tied the game at 12. Again White would find Murphy and Harnish as Southwood scored four straight to build a 16-12 lead, but back came the Norse. Kills from Cherish Leming and Miller along with a Dyson ace made it 18-17. Harnish would stop the Norse momentum with a kill as the Knights scored five straight to go up 23-17. After an Arie Kennedy kill made it 23-18 Sarah Peters answered as the Knights won game one 25-19.

It was all Southwood early in game two as the Knights jumped out to a 12-4 lead after scoring 8 straight points. Sami White got the Knights going with a tip and an ace as Harnish, Bailey Lundmark and Bailey Hobbs controlled the net to build the lead. The Knights would continue to build their lead and were up 21-11 when a Tori Snyder kill started a 4-1 run for the Norse to close the gap to 22-15. Southwood would score the nest three points to end game two 25-15 and led 2-0.

The Knights took a 3-0 lead to start game three on a Sarah Peters kill and led 4-1 when a Cherish Leming kill cut the lead in half. Taking advantage of Norse errors the Knights would gradually build the lead to 15-9 when the Norse got a second wind. Kassidy Miller recorded a kill that started a 5-0 run to cut the Southwood lead to 15-14. Marlee Stefanatos had two aces during the run. The Knights would answer with four straight to get the lead to 19-14 when Northfield scored three straight on kills from Miller and Kennedy to make it 19-17. Back came the Knights. Bailey Lundmark would get a kill and Emilie Harnish an ace to make it 23-18 before a Snyder kill made it 23-19. Southwood went back to their power with White feeding Murphy for two straight kills to end game three 25-19 and the night 3-0.
