The Wabash volleyball teams made it a clean sweep over Lewis Cass Monday with the varsity winning 25-21, 25-16, 25-17. The junior varsity got the night started by winning 25-22, 25-24.
Sarah Ritter got the Apaches going with a kill to take a 1-0 lead and built the lead to 4-1 off kills from Kristin Cromer and Sydni Mullett. At that point Wabash could never score more than two points in a row, but the Apache defense did not allow Cass two points in a row until 18-15 when the Kings cut the lead to 18-17. Wabash would then take advantage of two Cass errors, but the Kings returned the favor to make it 20-19. Wabash would build their lead to 24-20 with a kill from Abby Stein and go on to win game one 25-21.
In game two Kristin Cromer got a kill early with Sydni Mullett adding a kill as the Apaches led 4-3. Abby Stein would then knock down a kill that started a 6 point run with Kristin Cromer serving to open a 10-3 lead. During the run Mullett and Katie Ford also had kills. After three Cass points the Apaches would run again, this time a 5-0 run. Katie Ford started and ended the run with kills. Kaitlyn Dowdal had an ace. At 16-7 Cass would make a run to cut the Wabash lead to 18-15 before a Mullett kill make it 19-15. At 20-16 it was Ford with a block that aided a five point run to end game two 25-16 and the Apaches led 2-0.
Wabash kept their momentum going to start game three as Kristin Cromer led off with a kill and was followed by a Shelby Stone ace to lead 2-0. Wabash would build their lead to 10-4 with kills from Mullett, Ford and Taylor Cain with Dowdal serving an ace. Cass would chip away behind their tall center and cut the Apache lead to 17-13 when they had enough. Again it was Mullett and Cain with kills as Wabash scored four straight to make it 21-13, but back came the Kings scoring four straight to close the gap to 21-17. Katie Ford would then get a kill that started a 4-0 run that was ended with a Ford kill to end the game 25-17 and the night 3-0.
