It was night two of the Southwood volleyball sectional with three of the four county teams in action. In game one Wabash took on North Miami, following behind 0-2 before a three game rally to win 22-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-9. In the second match of the night Southwood and Northfield took the court as the Lady Knights rolled to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-13 win.
The Lady Apaches got off to a horrible start, falling behind 6-12. Down 10-17 Wabash made a small run, scoring four straight with Katie Ford and Kristin Cromer recording kills to make it 14-17 then got it to within one at 18-19 on a Sydni Mullett tip, but couldn’t get over the hump in a 22-25 loss.
The Apaches got the exact same start in game two, quickly falling behind 1-6 and could never close the gap until 17-24 when Mullett nailed a kill that started a 4-0 run to get the score to 21-24 when a serve in the net ended game two 21-25.
Down 0-2 Wabash could either regroup or just go through the motions. The Lady Apaches chose choice number one, getting started on a Sarah Ritter kill and built a 5-0 lead.North Miami would chip their way back and cut the lead to 8-7 when Katie Ford would kill twice with Taylor Cain getting a block to open a 13-7 lead and build their lead to 20-11. North Miami couldn’t get any closer than six points as Wabash won game three 25-18.
Things were looking bleak for Wabash in game four as the Apaches fell behind 7-14 and were down 12-20 when the momentum changed. Taking advantage of several Warrior mistakes and a kill from Jaycee Parrett Wabash would go on a run and after kills from Katie Ford and Sarah Ritter the game was tied at 23. Again North Miami would hit the ball out of bounds and the Apaches had game point when Katie Ford nailed a kill to win game four 25-23 and tie the match 2-2.
With the adrenaline flowing and having all the momentum Wabash wasted no time taking control in game five, getting kills from Parrett and Kristin Cromer to grab a 5-2 lead.At 5-4 North Miami would hit the ball out of bounds four times and with a tip from Parrett wabash led 10-4. The Warriors closed the gap to 10-7 when the Apaches found Taylor Cain for two kills and a 13-7 lead. Wabash would win game five 15-9 and the match 3-2.
