The Northfield football team had to take the hour plus drive to Berne Friday to battle South Adams in the winter like conditions, falling to the Starfires 26-7.
South Adams would strike just three minutes in to the game on a 63yd run to grab a 7-0 lead, but the Norse would answer. With 1:44 on the clock Josh Bickel would find the end zone from 4yds out to tie the score at 7 after the Kyle Heiser kick. The first quarter ended 7-7.
South Adams would manage the only score of the second quarter, running it in from 3yds out to lead 13-7 at the half.
All the scoring was done by the Starfires in the second half, scoring on a 53yd run in the third and a 1yd run in the fourth as the Norse offense just couldn’t find their mojo in the 26-7 loss.
For Northfield Carter Freiden was 4 for 4 for 29yds. Freiden also rushed 9 times for 10yds. Josh Bickel led the rushing attach with 23 rushes for 104yds, 1TD. Shane Vigar added 4 for 23yds, Jarred Short 4 for 9yds. Jarred Short had 2 catches for 20yds. Shane Vigar added 1 for 5yds.
Northfield had 143yds rushing while South Adams had 244. The Norse had 172 total offensive yards while the Starfires had 257.
