The Manchester boys basketball team got the start they were looking for Wednesday as they traveled to Mississinewa and defeated the Indians 58-45 behind a 30 point performance from Chase Fierstos.
Manchester led 11-8 after the end of one. The Squires had four buckets in the quarter, three from Fierstos and one from freshman Koehl Fluke. Manchester would extend their lead one point in the second as they won the quarter 18-17. The Squires had three bombs from behind the arch, one each from Fierstos, David McAtee and Chaney Zolman. Fierstos scored 11 points in the quarter as Manchester led 29-25 at the half.
David McAtee would nail a three in the third with Fierstos and Zolman collecting two buckets each as Manchester again won the quarter 14-10 to lead 43-35 with a quarter to play.
With the lead the Squires went to the free throw line 10 times in the fourth, hitting just 5 as the Indians closed the gap. Manchester scored 15 points in the quarter to hang on for the 58-45 win.
Leading Manchester was Chase Fiestos with 30 points. Chaney Zolamn added 12, David McAtee 10, Braydon Sewell 4, Koehl Fluke 2.
Coach Thompson ” Much to work on but the win was nice to start the year with.”
The junior varsity nipped the Indians 33-32.
Leading the Squires was Kane Gable with 13 points. Gable hit two free throws with one second left to win the game.
