Apaches Fall Short In Second Half Comeback

For two and half quarters Monday it looked like the Peru Tigers were going to blow Wabash out of the gym. The Tigers led 28-10 after the first stop and 40-24 at the half before  a late third quarter and early fourth quarter rally by the Apaches made it go to the wire with Peru pulling out a 61-57 win.

Wabash would take the early 2-0 lead on a Christian Hall jumper before buckets from Tyler Murphy and Michael Richardson gave Peru the lead. Logan Primerano and Christian Hall would then have a shoot out with each player hitting three times as Peru led 12-8. The Tigers would then get an old fashion three point play from  7 footer Seth Adelsperger that was answered by a Hall bucket as Peru led 15-10. The Tigers would then go on a 13-0 run to end the quarter and led 28-10 after the first stop. During the run Peru got points from Nolan Brimbury, Cameron Beauchamp, Primerano and Adelsperger. Christain Hall scored all 10 points for Wabash in the quarter.

Christian Hall would start the second quarter with two free throws, but Peru answered with buckets from Adelsperger and Primerano. Cody King would break the Hall scoring with an old fashion three point play before Logan Primerano hit twice to make it 38-16. The Apaches would then score 8 straight off two free throws from Taylor Vigar, two buckets from Hall and one from Juwan Carter to cut the Peru lead to 38-24. Nolan Brimbury would cinnect on two free throws with 12.9 remaining to give the Tigers a 40-24 half time lead.

Christian Hall would start the third quarter with a bucket that was answered by a Tyler Murphy bucket and a Logan Primerano dunk, but the Apaches kept their composure and started to chip away. Hall and Marcus Jones would hit and after a Adelsperger bucket a Juwan Carter bucket made it 46-33. Peru was up 50-35 when Wabash would score the last five points to make it 50-40 after three.

Things would get interesting early in the fourth when Chase Dirig started the quarter with a three to make it 50-43. Adelsperger would answer with a bucket, but again Dirig hit from long range to cut the Peru lead to 52-46. Dirig was followed by a Cody King bucket to make it 52-48, forcing a Peru time out. After a Tiger miss it was Dirig once more from behind the arch, making it 52-51 when Nolan Brimbury hit. Again Wabash cut the Peru lead to one on two Christian Hall free throws, but Seth Adelsperger answered to make it 56-53. Peru led 57-54 with a minute and a half to go when Taylor Vigar made it 57-55 on a free throw with Wabash getting the rebound on the miss on the second shot. Christian Hall was fouled with 1:17 on the clock, hitting both free throws to make it 57-57. Peru would get a bucket from Logan Primerano then create a turn over with 33.7 left and calling time out twice. Wabash would foul coming out of the time out with the Tigers missing the front end of a one and one. Wabash would miss the tying shot and fould with 8.7 left with Michael Richardson draining both free throws to seal the 61-57 thriller.

Leading Wabash was Christian Hall with 28 points. Chase Dirig added 12, Cody King 5, Juwan Carter 4, Taylor Vigar 4, Marcus Jones 3, Owen Yeadon 1.

Leading Peru was Logan Primerano with 23 points. Seth Adelsperger added 15, Nolan Brimbury 8, Tyler Murphy 6, Michael Richardson 5, Cameron Beauchamp 4.

Peru won the junior varsity game 52-46.

Luke Mattern led with 15 points. Austin Vinopal added 12, Matt Jones 7, Eryk Weber 7, Justin Beauchamp 2, Travis Easthom 2, Kaleb Kelsheimer 1.
