Fourth Quarter Rally Lifts Lady Apaches Over Warsaw

The Wabash Lady Apaches hosted Warsaw Tuesday and one thing was for sure. The team that wore black and orange was going to win the game. Trailing for three quarters the Lady Apaches used a 20 point fourth quarter in route to a come back 44-41 win over the Tigers.

It took nearly two minutes for a point to be put on the board which was a Kristin Cromer free throw to give Wabash a 1-0 lead. At the 4:55 mark Warsaw would hit the first bucket of the game, then two free throws to grab a 4-1 lead over the Apaches when Claire Cromer hit three straight free throws to tie the score at 4. Warsaw would finish the quarter scoring with two buckets and led 8-4 after one.

Sarah Puckett would get Wabash going in the second by draining a three pointer to close the gap to one and was followed by two Claire Cromer free throws to give Wabash a 9-8 lead. Warsaw would then score 6 straight to take the lead back at 14-9 when Abby Stein hit two free throws. At 15-11 Puckett would trade free throws with the Tigers before Stein hit two more as Warsaw led 17-15 at the half.

Warsaw would get a three pointer to start the third quarter and led 20-15 when Shelby Stone connected. Two Tiger free throws made it 22-17 before Claire Cromer hit two free throws and was followed by a Sydni Mullett bucket to make it 22-21. Again the Tigers would open a five point lead at 26-21 when Stone would drain a three. A Warsaw free throw and a bucket ended the quarter as the Tigers led 29-24 heading to the fourth.

Wabash would find the second wind they were looking for to start the fourth when Sarah Puckett drained a three and followed with an old fashion three to give the Lady Apaches a 30-29 lead. Warsaw would answer with a three and a free throw to grab a 33-30 lead before Claire Cromer and Sarah Puckett hit back to back bombs to put wabash back up 36-33. Warsaw would make it 36-35 with 2:22 left when Puckett and Kristin Cromer hit free throws to make it 38-35 with 50.6 remaining. The Tigers cut the lead to 38-37 and started to foul with Claire Cromer hitting four free throws to keep Wabash on top 42-39 with 29.3 left. Warsaw would score on an offensive rebound and call time out with 11.0 left. Applying heavy pressure the Apaches broke the press with the Tigers not being able to foul until the 2.6 mark. Sarah Puckett calmly sank both free throws as the Lady Apaches held on for the 44-41 win.

Leading Wabash was Sarah Puckett with 17 points. Claire Cromer added 14, Shelby Stone 5, Abby Stein 4, Kristin Cromer 2, Sydni Mullett 2.
