The Southwood boys basketball team played host to Wabash Saturday afternoon, holding off the Apaches for a 60-51 TRC win.
Wabash took an early 3-0 lead off a bucket and a free throw from Taylor Vigar before the Knights would score 5 straight. Alex Harmon would hit twice, converting a three point play on the second to put the Knights up 5-3. Vigar would stop the mini run with a bucket to tie the score before Noah Kirk and Robbie Cole made it 9-5. The Apaches would bounce right back to knot the score at 9 with buckets from Marcus Jones and Chase Dirig. With Southwood up 11-9 Taylor Vigar would put the Apaches back on top 13-11 with two buckets, but the Knights responded in the see saw quarter to retake the lead 16-15. Marcus Jones hit two free throws with 3.6 left on the clock and Wabash led 17-16 after one.
Alex Harmon and Robbie Cole would get the first two buckets of the second quarter as the Knights took the lead back 20-17 and built the lead to 25-19 before a Jones bucket. At 25-21 Southwood would go on an 8-0 run that was started by Cole with carson Blair and Brandin Frazier getting in the scoring column to grab a 33-21 lead. The Apaches wouldn’t fold though, getting a free throw from Tyler Hough and buckets from Travis Easthom and Owen Yeadon to cut the lead to 33-26 at the half.
The two teams came out trading blows in the third quarter with Robbie Cole and Taylor Vigar carrying the scoring loads. The Knights led 45-36 after a Cole bucket when Yeadon hit a three and Vigar a two to cut the Knight lead to 45-41. Alex Harmon would then drain a three with Vigar connecting on a free throw before the buzzer and the Knights led 48-42 after three.
After free throws dominated the scoring early in the fourth quarter the Knights led 53-47 when Noah Kirk and Harmon hit, followed by a Blair free throw to make it 58-47 as the Knights held on for the 60-51 win.
Leading Southwood was Alex Harmon with 22 points. Robbie Cole added 13, Noah Kirk 12, Carson Blair 8, Brandin Frazier 5.
Leading wabash was Taylor Vigar with 18 points. Marcus Jones added 10, Chase Dirig 6, Owen Yeadon 5, Travis Easthom 4, Tyler Hough 3, Brodie Hough 3, Juwan Carter 2.
Southwood won the junior varsity contest 55-37.
Leading the Knights was Peyton Trexler with 19 points. Blake Martz added 11, Christian Deeter 6, Andrew Finicle 5, Paul Farlow 4, Will Roberts 4, Jeffery Finicle 3, Ethen Roberts 3.
Leading Wabash was Eryk Weber with 15 points. Austin Vinopal added 6, Justin Beauchamp 5, Matt Jones 5, Kory Fuller 4, Kaleb Kelsheimer 1, Austin Wieland 1.
