The Northfield Lady Norse played host to 3A, #10 Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday, giving the Vikings a scare for three and a half quarters before Valley pulled out a 50-43 win over the Norse.
Valley would get the first bucket of the game and was quickly tied on a Cherish Leming bucket. The Vikings would then score 6 straight to grab an 8-2 lead and eventually led 13-3. The Lady Norse would then settle down and begin to chip away, getting three free throws from Leming and a three pointer from Payton Thomson to close the gap to 13-9. After two Valley free throws made it 15-9, Abby Keaffaber would drain a three with Thomson following with two free throws to make it 15-14. At 17-14 Sarah Driscoll would score the final bucket of the quarter as the Norse trailed 17-16.
Valley would score the first bucket of the second quarter when the Norse would take their first and only lead. Trailing 19-16 Abby Keaffaber would hit a bucket, then drain two free throws to give Northfield a 20-19 lead. Valley would respond by scoring 6 straight to take a 25-20 lead when Leming scored off an offensive rebound. Arie Kennedy would then match buckets with Valley to make it 27-24. Valley would get the last two points of the half on free throws and led Northfield 29-24 at the half.
The Lady Norse had the first possession of the third quarter, taking their time to find a good shot. Cherish Leming found the bucket at the 5:40 mark to make it 29-26. Valley would then out score Northfield 6-2 with the Norse bucket coming from Jacklyn Peas and trailed 35-28 when Thomson connected to make it 35-30. Valley would then respond with a deuce and a three to open a 40-30 lead when Abby Keaffaber ended the quarter with a bucket for a 40-32 score after three.
Valley would get the lead back to double digits to start the fourth when the Lady Norse rallied. Peas would hit, followed by a Leming bucket, plus a Peas free throw to cut the lead to 42-37 with 4:32 remaining. Cherish Leming would sandwich a bucket between Valley free throws before Peas connected to cut the Viking lead to 45-41. Valley would then score on two free throws and a bucket to make it 50-41 with less than a minute to go before Peas hit two free throws for the 50-43 final.
The junior varsity fell to Valley 37-31.
