Lady Apaches Make It 12 In A Row

The Wabash Lady Apaches played host to a very good Blackford team Tuesday. The Lady Bruins were coming in with a guard already signed to play college ball plus a 6′ 3” center. The smaller Lady Apaches used relentless defense and an up tempo offense to pull out a 60-48 win to increase their win streak to 12 games and their season record to 18-3 with one to go before sectional.

Wabash got off to a rough start when they fell behind 10-2, calling time out to regroup. The Lady Apaches received the message in the huddle and responded with a 15-0 run to grab a 17-10 lead. During the run Claire Cromer hit two long balls and scored 11 points as Wabash led 17-14 after one.

The momentum remained on the Lady Apache side to start the second quarter as the Cromer sisters, Claire and Kristin scored the first 6 points of the quarter for a 23-14 lead. At 26-18 Sarah Ritter and Shelby Stone connected to make it 30-18, but the Bruins responded with 5 straight for a 30-23 score. Sarah Puckett traded two free throws with a Blackford bucket when Claire Cromer banged home her third three pointer of the game at the buzzer for a 35-26 halftime lead.

Things would get interesting early in the third when Blackford quickly cut the Wabash lead to 37-32. After a Claire Cromer bucket made it 39-32 the Bruins scored five straight to close the gap to 39-37. Again it was Cromer stopping the run but the Bruins were nit done, tying the score at 41. Wabash would respond when Sarah Ritter hit back to back buckets, one being a three point play and was followed by a Kristin Cromer bucket as the Apaches led 48-41 after three.

Wabash wouldn’t quit on the third quarter ending with Sarah Puckett hitting a bucket and two free throws to start the fourth quarter for a 52-41 lead. At 52-44 Puckett and Claire Cromer would hit back to back buckets while Kristin Cromer hit two free throws to open a 57-44 lead with 2:52 to go, but the Lady Apaches were not done as Kristin Cromer hit a free throw followed by two Sarah Puckett free throws for a 60-44 lead, going on to win 60-48.
