On a cold windy night it was raining inside the Southwood gym Thursday, raining three pointers that is as freshman Carson Blair and the Southwood team set single game records for made three pointers. Blair knocked down 7 three’s in the first half and 9 for the game to break the old record of 8, while the Southwood team connected for 15 long balls to set a team single game record as the Knights poured on Madison Grant 76-35. The junior varsity kicked off the night connecting on 11 three’s.
The Argylls actually hit the first three of the game to take a 3-0 lead before lightning struck. Alex Harmon would hit the first Southwood long ball that started a 14-0 run. After the Harmon bucket Blair would connect for the first time from behind the arch, followed by a Noah Kirk bucket, then the second Blair three. Matt Nose would finish the run with a three as the Knights led 14-3. After a Madison Grant bucket Robbie Cole would hit with Blair ending the quarter with his third triple for a 19-5 first quarter lead.
Alex Harmon and Robbie Cole would get the first two Knight buckets of the second quarter as the Knights led 23-10 when the freshman duo of Blair and Mathew Nose went unconscious. Nose would connect from behind the arch, followed by back to back three’s from Blair to open a 32-10 lead, but the youngsters were not done. After an Argyll bucket Nose would strike from behind the arch for a second time in the quarter with Blair hitting two more long balls, the last from around 30 feet at the buzzer for a 41-16 halftime lead.
The Knight scoring slowed a bit to start the third quarter as two Noah Kirk free throws were all the scoring the first two and a half minutes. Things changed however with the game at 44-20 when Blair did the rare feat of converting a four point play, being fouled on his 8th three and making the free throw. Alex Harmon then drained his second three pointer of the game as the Knights stretched the lead to 52-21. Harmon and Cole would hit free throws as the Knights led 54-30 when one more run ended the quarter. Carson Blair would set the school record with his 9th three, followed by two Alex Harmon buckets as the Knights led by 29 at 61-32 with a quarter to go.
The Knights would clear the bench for the most part to start the fourth quarter, but the thunder kept rolling. Two Robbie Cole buckets made it 65-32 before an Argyll three when the reserves made some noise. At 67-35 Brandin Frazier started a 9-0 run with Peyton Trexler hitting, Blake Martz draining the last three pointer followed by another Trexler bucket for the 76-35 final.
Leading Southwood was Carson Blair with 28 points. Alex Harmon added 13, Robbie Cole 10, Mathew Nose 9, Noah Kirk 7, Peyton Trexler 4, Blake Martz 3, Brandin Frazier 2.
The junior varsity defeated Madison Grant 58-40. The Knight JV connected on 11 three pointers.
Peyton Trexler and Blake Martz led with 16 points each. Ethen Roberts added 10, Jeffery Finicle 6, Will Roberts 5, Andrew Finicle 3, Christian Deeter 2.
