Local Group Takes Part At Big Ten Wrestling Championships

Local wrestling coaches and fans pictured were once again part of the event staff at the 102nd annual Big 10 Wrestling Championships held at The Ohio State University’s St. Johns Arena in Columbus, OH this weekend.  This is the fourth consecutive time the group has worked the Big 10 Wrestling Championships and this was among the most competitive in recent years for sure.  They had the opportunity to see some Indiana talent earn some hard-fought spots on the podium as well as punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships next month in St. Louis, MO. Purdue had 5 wrestlers on the podium and 8 NCAA Qualifiers while IU had one on the podium and 2 qualifiers.  Also, former Crown Point wrestler Jason Tsirtis won his 2nd consecutive Big 10 championship in as many tries as he is only a sophomore!

The group held numerous positions at this year’s tournament, including running video camera for replay situations, running bout cards to the scoring table, staging wrestlers for their matches and staging wrestlers on the podium for awards.  Pictured are (from left to right) Cary Hammel, Cortney Pennington, Terry Faust, Doug Pennington, Scottie Pennington and Steve Kirtlan.
