They Did It For Jace

The Roann Tigers little league baseball team dedicated their entire season to fellow classmate and friend Jace Randel this summer and what a season it was.

The Tigers captured the Metro League title Monday at Urbana, defeating the Lagro Cardinals 4-3 to cap off a perfect 14-0 season.

The Tigers are coached by Chad Watson and Jon Higgins. On dedicating the season to Randel, Tigers coach Chad Watson quoted ‘’I think it shows that these young kids can still have a good heart and do things for the right reasons’’.

On December 23rd of 2014 Jace Randel was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a very rare disease that affects the bone marrow stem cells that produce blood cells.

Needing a bone marrow transplant, on March 24th, they extracted 1 liter of bone marrow from Jace’s sister Audrie, who was a perfect match and began transplanting into Jace.

The road to recovery has been a long one for Jace and his family and although Jace was not able to play baseball this summer he was at the game as part of the team Monday and is pictured receiving his championship trophy with the rest of the team.
