Knight JH Football Splits

The Southwood Jr. High Football squads opened their season against Maconaquah on a hot Tuesday evening.

The Seventh Grade dropped the first game 0-32.  The team fought hard for a quarter and then faded.  The offense struggled to compete throughout the game.  Alex Farr completed 4 of 7 passes, but yardage was limited.  The Knights greatest success came in the return game where they totaled 94 yards (Mason Yentes 55, Carson Rich 21, and Connor Rich 18).

On defense Cody Gaylourd and Connor Rich tallied 4 solo tackles and 4 assists each.  The top play occurred when Elijah Sutton forced a fumble and Mason Yentes recovered it on the one yard line to stop a Maconaquah drive.

The Eighth Grade game was the opposite of the earlier contest.  The Knights rolled up 309 total yards in route to a 48-0 victory.  Two runners carried for over one hundred yards.  Gabe Lloyd had three touchdowns on 129 yards and Kyler Chapman finished with a touchdown on 109 yards.  Jackson Simons completed 2 of 5 for 32 yards, rushed for 21, and scored two touchdowns.  Carson Heath had a reception for a 19 yard touchdown and Gabe Lloyd had a reception of 13 yards.

On defense the Knights had a strong team effort lead by Riley Whitesel, Grant Whitham, Kyler Chapman, Dillion Filip, and Carson Heath.  Ty Roser and Eric Carter intercepted a pass each, and Riley Whitesel recovered a fumble.
