The Northfield volleyball team ran into a buzz saw Wednesday, hosting 2A, #3 Madison Grant. The scrappy Lady Norse would scare the Argylls in game two, but fell short in three games 13-25, 23-25, 13-25.
The Argylls would grab a quick 9-2 lead in game one before the Norse started to settle down. Paige Holley and Jordan Bratch would record kills as Northfield closed the gap to 14-9. Madison Grant would then build their lead to 19-11 before a Holley kill, then score five straight to go up 24-12 and go on to win 25-13.
The Lady Norse would come out inspired in game two. With Liz Howenstine serving Northfield jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Howenstine had two aces during the run with Bratch nailing two kills. Madison Grant would cut the lead in half when Bratch and Holley had kills along with an ace from Abigail Poole to go up 12-5. The Argylls would close the gap to two points, but the Norse remained scrappy and held a 21-18 lead when Madison Grant took over. The Argylls cut the Norse lead to 21-20 before a Holley kill, then tied the score at 22 before scoring three of the last four points for the 25-23 final.
Maybe with some deflated tires after game two the Norse came out a little flat and the Argylls took advantage of it, jumping out to a 7-0 lead and increased the lead to 12-3. The Norse would then score three straight on kills from Kianna Kendall and Holley to cut the lead to 12-6 before the Argylls ripped off six straight to open an 18-6 lead. Holley stopped the run with a kill, followed by Ava Smith finding an open spot, but it was to much Argylls as they cruised to a 25-13 win.
