The Southwood 7th grade Volleyball team started the season with a home win against the Maconaquah Braves. After starting the match a little slow, they quickly gained momentum to win the first game 25-14. Maconaquah made a good run to close the gap in the second game, but Southwood prevailed as winners by a score of 25-23. After getting a W, the 7th grade is 1-0 for the season.
Maggie Ball had 6 service points, 3 aces, and 4 assists; Isabel Davis contributed 4 digs and 1 kill; Natalie Haycraft served for two points, had 4 digs, and 2 kills; Erin McGouldrick had 4 service points and 1 dig; Kandon Pries had 17 serving points, 6 aces, along with four digs. Rounding out the scoring for the Knights was Mariah Wyatt with 1 service point, 1 block, 3 kills, and 2 digs.
The Southwood 8th Grade Volleyball team opened up the 2015 season on September 2nd when they hosted the Maconaquah Braves. The Knights had a slow start and lost the first game 23-25, but came back to win the the second game 25-15. A strong serving effort by MaKenna Pace led the Knight to a 12-0 start where they ended up winning 15-3.
On the night: Freedom DeWitt had 2 dig; Madison Johnson had 3 service points, 2 aces, 6 digs; Erin Lehner had 5 service points, 2 aces, 4 digs; Kayla Mays had 10 service points, 8 aces, 3 kills, 1 block, 3 digs; MaKenna Pace had 18 service points, 5 aces, 4 assists, and 1 dig; Kirsten Pecsenye 1 service point; MaKenna Proffitt had 5 service points, 3 aces, 3 kills, 1 block, 3 digs; and Allison Steele had 1 service point, 2 assists, 4 digs.
Southwood’s 8th Grade will return to action Wednesday, September 9th when they host Oak Hill.
