The Manchester tennis team hosted and defeated TRC foe Whitko 4-1 Thursday.
Once again the seniors led the way with Max Karg blanking his opponent 6-0,6-0. Karg is now 9-1 on the season. The top doubles team of Noah Cain and Matthew Pegg moved to 10-1 with a quick victory too. After a slow start, the duo cruised to win 10 straight games. Luke Donathan moved to 2 doubles with Heath Dierks and also won 6-2,6-0. “They clinched the team win tonight and are pivotal to our team success.” At 3 singles Spence Trick played smart, tough tennis in earning a close win. After winning 6-2, his opponent altered his strategy and a Trick lost 4-6. With the match decided, Trick played a 10 point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set. Spence stormed out to a 9-5 lead. After Whitko would tie the score 9-9, Spence won the two decisive points for an 11-9 final. Parker Wagoner continued to improve despite dropping his singles match. “Parker’s desire to win is there. He just needs more match experience. Coach Screeton and Coach Eichenauer were pleased with the team effort. “The young Squires came through tonight. We look forward to improving throughout conference play next week.” Next match Home Tuesday vs. Wabash and Thursday at Whitko.
