Lady Knights Runner Up At Clinton Prairie

The Southwood girls basketball team played in the Clinton Prairie tournament Saturday, defeating Eastern 57-31 before falling to Clinton Prairie in the championship 44-37.

In game one against Eastern the Lady Knights jumped out to a 17-2 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Lady Knights shot 20-49 from the field (4-11 from 3) and were 13-20 from the free throw. The Lady Knights also outrebounded the taller Comets 40-38.

Brooke Elliott again led the Lady Knights in scoring with 23 points as well as leading the team in assists with 3 and steals with 4. Taylor Heath added 13 points while Ashley Parson and Kassiyt Simpson both chipped in with 7, points. Makenna Dawes, Ellie White and Alissa Pershing all added 2 points and Morgan Farr had 1 point. Atwood led the team in rebounding with 7 boards while White, Heath and Elliott all had 5 boards.

The Lady Knights and the host Clinton Prairie Gophers squared off in the championship game. The Lady Gophers led by 2 after 1 quarter but the Lady Knights cut that lead in half and trailed by one point, 15-16, as both team entered their locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Gophers shot the ball well in the third quarter, conversely, the Knights were as cold as the temperature outside, as Gophers threatened to blow the Lady Knights, leading 19-32 at the end of the third quarter, The Lady Knights furiously pressed the Gophers in the 4th quarter and trimmed the lead to four points on multiple occasions but the Lady Gophers hit their free throws down the stretch to grab the championship, 37-44.

Brooke Elliott concluded her four game week with 19 points. During the week, Elliott tallied a total of 82 points for the Lady Knights.Taylor Heath added 9 points while Kassidy Atwood chipped in with 7 and Makenna Dawes added 2 points. Atwood led with 9 rebounds, Elliott had 7 and Heath grabbed 6 boards. Heath led the team with 3 assists and 3 steals.

The Lady Knights were 11-47 from the field which included 3-13 from beyond the 3 point arc and were 12-21 from the free throw line.
