The Manchester girls basketball team took on a very good Eastbrook squad Thursday, taking an early lead before falling to the Panthers 45-30.
Down 2-0 Cierra Carter drained a three pointer and after another Carter bucket, plus one from Ellie Milam the Squires led 7-4. Eastbrook would score the next four to grab an 8-7 lead when Drew Thompson connected to lead 9-8. Eastbrook would score the last 5 points of the quarter and led the Squires 13-9 after one.
Eastbrook built their lead to 17-9 before a Thompson three stopped the Panther 9 point run to make it 17-12 when Eastbrook went on a 6-0 run to make it 23-12. Bailey Sewell would stop that run as the Squires got one more bucket from Emma West to trail 25-16 at the half.
The Squires would close the deficit to 25-20 to start the third quarter off buckets from Sewell and Carter. Trailing 27-22 after a second Carter bucket the Squires gave up 7 straight to the Panthers as Eastbrook opened a 34-22 lead. West would hit two free throws and the Squires got a three from Thompson as the third ended with Eastbrook leading 37-27.
The Panthers scored the first 6 points of the fourth quarter to increase their lead to 42-27 before Tiffany Johnson hit three straight free throws as the Squires fell 45-30.
Leading Manchester was Cierra Carter with 9 points. Drew Thompson added 8, Bailey Sewell 4, Emma West 4, Tiffany Johnson 3, Ellie Milam 2.
The Manchester junior varsity defeated Eastbrook 39-24.
Leading the Squires was Jirni Cripe with 10 points. Emma West added 9, Kennedy Fierstos 6, Kiera Stacy 6, Erika Kendall 6, Rachel Cave 2.
