Knights Put Four In Double Figures In Win Over Apaches

The Southwood boys basketball team shot lights out for three quarters Friday, using several runs and 27 points from Peyton Trexler in a 78-40 win over Wabash.

Carson Blair and Kaleb Kelsheimer traded buckets to start the game before a Peyton Trexler three point play started an 8-0 run by the Knights. Blake Martz and Blair would hit during the run that ended with a second Trexler bucket off a steal to lead 10-2 before Taylor Vigar hit. Vigar and Trexler would trade buckets as the Knights led 14-6. Luke Mattern hit two free throws before two buckets from Trexler made it 18-8. A Mattern bucket made it 18-10 when the Knights ended the quarter on a 9-0 run on a Blair buzzer beater to lead 27-10 after one.

Eryk Weber scored two buckets early for Wabash in the second to make it 31-16 when the Knights went running again. Blake Martz would start the 14-0 run with Matthew Nose hitting a three and Trexler hitting twice to lead 46-16. Marcus Jones stopped the run before the Knights scored 9 straight to end the half, including 7 straight from Blair. Southwood led 55-18 at the half.

Trexler hit two free throws to start the second half that was answered by a Matter three. Nose would then start a 6-0 run that ended with a Blair bucket for a 63-21 lead before Mattern drained another long ball. Up 63-24 the Knights would score the last 6 points of the quarter to lead 69-24 with a quarter to go.

Wabash would go on an 11-0 run to start the fourth quarter. Justin Beauchamp started the run with a bucket as Beauchamp and Mattern went back and forth with Mattern ending the run with his third bucket early in the quarter. The two teams would trade buckets the rest of the way until the buzzer with the Knights defeating the Apaches 78-40.

Leading Southwood was Peyton Trexler with 27 points. Carson Blair added 15, Blake Martz 14, Matthew Nose 10, Paul Farlow 4, Brandin Frazier 3, Dallas Holmes 2, Payton Enser 2, Ethen Roberts 1.

Leading Wabash was Luke Mattern with 16 points. Eryk Weber added 6, Justin Beauchamp 4, Taylor Vigar 4, Kaleb Kelsheimer 2, Marcus Jones 2, Austin Hostetler 2.

Southwood won the junior varsity game 49-26.

Leading the Knights was Paul Farlow with 16 points. Dallas Holmes added 11, Quentin Perry 8, Ethen Roberts 8, Luke Winer 2, Austin Haynes 2, Max Marseilles 1.

Leading the Apaches was Blake Gribben with 9 points. Austin Black added 5, Devin Hewitt 5, Brandon Easterday 2, Austin Wieland 2, Levi Robinson 1.
