The Manchester girls basketball team used a 27 point third quarter to run past North Miami 59-36 Saturday.
The game and the Squires got off to a slow start as North Miami led 5-4 after one. The Lady Squires got a bucket from Sydney Day and two free throws from Ellie Milam.
After not being able to throw a boat in the ocean the first quarter the tide changed in the second. The Lady Squires exploded for 27 points while holding the Warriors to just 7 to lead 31-12. Five players did all the scoring in the quarter as the Squires hit five long balls. Cierra Carter led the way with 9 points. Sydney Day and Ellie Milam each had 6, Bailey Sewell 4 and Rae Bedke 2.
Manchester would win the third quarter 16-11. Drew Thompson and Bedke each had a three with Thompson leading five scorers with 5 points. Manchester led 47-23 with a quarter to go.
North Miami would out score Manchester by a point in the fourth for the 59-36 final.
Leading the Squires was Cierra Carter with 13 points. Sydney Day added 11, Ellie Milam 8, Rae Bedke 7, Tiffany Johnson 6, Drew Thompson 5, Bailey Sewell 4, Erika Kendall 3, Emma West 2.
The Manchester junior varsity defeated North Miami 30-27.
Leading the Lady Squires was Erika Kendall with 10 points. Kennedy Fierstos added 8, Jirni Cripe 4, Kennidy Lauer 2, Emma West 2, Rachel Cave 2, Emily Mize 2.
