Lady Apaches Win Physical Battle Over Squires

The Manchester and Wabash girls basketball teams hooked up in a very physical TRC Battle Saturday, as the Lady Apaches jumped out to a 12-1 lead and shook off a couple Manchester runs to defeat the Squires 47-36.

After an Ellie Milam free throw put Manchester up 1-0 the Lady Apaches would answer with a 12-0 run. Sydi Mullet would hit two straight buckets that were followed by a Bailey Yoakum free throw and a bucket. Madison Barden then hit and was followed by Katie McCauley converting a three point play to make it 12-1. Drew Thompson would stop the run with a bucket before Yoakum hit, followed by a Thompson three to make it 14-6. The Apaches would end the quarter with five straight with a bucket from Jaycee Parrett and a three from Mullet to lead 19-6 after one.

The fast pace that ended the first quarter went to neither team being able to find the bucket the first four minutes of the second quarter. Madison Barden finally scored with 3:55 left with the two teams then trading free throws to make it 23-8. The last two scores of the quarter came from Sabrina Wagner free throw and a Drew Thompson three for a 24-11 Wabash halftime lead.

Kristin Cromer would hit her lone bucket to start the third quarter before two Bailey Sewell buckets made it 26-15. The Apaches answered with points from Mullett and McCauley before a Bedke two and a Kennedy Fierstos three made it 30-20. McCauley would then hit a free throw before Rae Bedke drained a thre to make it 31-23 when Bailey Yoakum ended the quarter with a bucket and the Apaches winning 33-23.

After a Tiffany Johnson bucket closed the gap to 8 to start the fourth quarter the Apaches would answer with a dagger 9-2 run. Bailey Youkum scored 4 points during the run with McCauley and Barden scoring. With Wabash up 42-29 Drew Thompson would nail a three, followed by a Cierra carter bucket to get the deficit to single digits at 42-34 when Wabash answered once more with a run. McCauley would score, followed by made free throws from Barden, Yoakum and Parrett to score 5 straight as the Squires ran out of time, falling to Wabash 47-36.

Leading Wabash was Bailey Yoakum with 12 points. Katie McCauley added 11, Sydni Mullett 9, Madison Barden 9, Jaycee Parrett 3, Kristin Cromer 2, Sabrina Wagner 1.

Leading Manchester was Drew Thompson with 13 points. Bailey Sewell added 6, Rae Bedke 5, Cierra Carter 4, Kennedy Fierstos 3, Ellie Milam 3, Tiffany Johnson 2.

Manchester won the junior varsity contest 39-15.

Leading the Lady Squires was Kennedy Fierstos with 14 points. Emma West added 8, Erika Kendall 6, Kiera Stacy 5, Rachel Cave 4.

Leading Wabash was Kennedy Bracket with 6 points. Kiley Stone added 4, Abby Vinopal 2, Tabatha Wagner 2, Kaylee Graf 1.
